The FKF Women’s Premier League 2024/25 season returns this weekend, promising an action-packed lineup of fixtures on October 5th and 6th. With six matches scheduled, fans are eager to see how the top teams, new promotions, and underdogs will fare as the new season unfolds.

FKF Women Top Performers to Watch

Among the teams expected to be title contenders this season are reigning champions Kenya Police Bullets, last year’s runners-up Vihiga Queens FC, as well as Ulinzi Starlets and Kibera Soccer Women FC. These teams are coming into the new season with strong squads and will be keen to establish themselves at the top of the table early on.

The defending champions enter the new season with high expectations. Having finished last season unbeaten, they are looking to maintain their dominance. The club was very active in the transfer market, securing the services of several top players, including Emily Morang’a from Vihiga Queens, Omita Bertha, Norah Anne, and the highly-rated goalkeeper Annedy Kundu Kwamasi. With the addition of Jane Hato, the Under-20 Junior Starlets captain, and Ochaka Elizabeth, the Junior Starlets’ Under-17 captain, Police Bullets have fortified their squad for another strong title run.

After finishing second last season, Vihiga Queens are determined to reclaim their top spot. While they lost key players like Tumaini Waliaula, last season's golden boot winner, and top goalkeeper Sophy Akinyi, they remain a formidable force. They have also bolstered their ranks with young talent, including Diana Otieno, Striker Eglay Mukhwana from Kayole Starlets, Yvonne Mwikali and Ambriah Omar both  from Buruburu Soccer Academy. Vihiga Queens' depth and experience will keep them in contention for the title.

Ulinzi Starlets, Tied on points with Vihiga Queens last season but finishing third due to goal difference, Ulinzi Starlets are another team to watch. Although they were relatively quiet in the transfer market, their core squad remains strong, with standout players like Sheryl Angachi, Cindy Ngairah, and Diana Shakava leading the charge. Ulinzi's tactical discipline and teamwork make them a formidable opponent.

Kibera Soccer Women FC finished fourth last season and have been busy in the transfer market. With the additions of Janet Mumo from Mathare United and Anna Harusi and Yvonne Kavere from Zetech, they are poised to improve on last season's results. Their impressive pre-season form suggests they will be in the mix for the title.

New Teams on the Block

This season will also see some new faces in the top-tier league. Following the relegation of Soccer Assassins, Gaspo Women, and Trans Nzoia Falcons, KISPED, Kisumu All Starlets FC, and Mombasa Olympic FC have earned promotion. These teams will be eager to make their mark and establish themselves among the elite of Kenyan women’s football. KISPED and Kisumu All Starlets, in particular, are returning after some time away from the top flight and will be keen to regain rhythm.

Underdogs and Dark Horses

While no team can be completely written off in football, some teams enter the 2024/25 season with lower expectations based on their performance last season. Teams like Bunyore Starlets, Trinity Starlets FC(formerly Nakuru City Queens), and Zetech Sparks struggled last season, finishing just a few points above the relegation zone. However, the pre-season offers every team a fresh start, and these clubs will be determined to defy expectations and climb the table. With newly promoted teams adding to the competition, anything is possible in this unpredictable league.

As the FKF Women Premier League 2024/25 season kicks off, the competition is expected to be fierce, with every team looking to assert their dominance. Whether it’s defending champions or underdogs, this season promises excitement, drama, and high-quality football.
