In the FKF Division 2, Githurai All Stars were at home once again to face Gikuni FC. Having suffered a rare loss at Pand Pieri last time out, Coach Vidal rang some changes. Derrick Onyango dropped to the bench, and his centre forward role was taken up by Moise Nkurunziza, who started in midfield last time out.

Kelvin Njuguna moved from the 6 role to play an advanced 8 role. This meant that GAS in possession was playing primarily "two tens". Njuguna and Evans Juma played slightly behind the striker and in the half-space areas. David Wonders came into the side to play as the defensive midfielder.

Based on data from GAS games tracked by Tisini, the team tends to settle into games slowly, and most goals conceded are within the first 30 minutes, and the trend continued against Gikuni. However, GAS was the first team to have a shot. The home side also had the ball in the net, which was quickly ruled out for offside.

Gikuni FC, too, had chances, with the right wing particularly enjoying some good spells in the first 30 minutes. He drew the first good shot of the game, and a subsequent corner led to an overhead kick that was dangerously wide. GAS survived these pockets of pressure.

Githurai All Stars Goals

In games tracked by Tisini, the Roysambu side tends to score in the last 15 minutes of the first 45. This was the case today.

Ishmael Otieno, the GAS goalkeeper, cleanly claimed a Gikuni set piece and initiated a swift counter-attack with an excellent throw-out to Njuguna. Njuguna's quick carry and precise cut-back found Moise, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner for the opening goal.

This goal calmed down the fans and the players, too. That calmness proved to be an asset as a slow, composed buildup from the back led to another ball finding Evans Juma with plenty of space just outside the box; his well-struck shot just before half-time brought the Pandpieri crowd to their feet.

GAS consistently excels at winning second balls, particularly from set pieces, which frequently fall to Njuguna due to his strategic positioning. Although his accuracy from outside the box has typically been low this season. Against Gikuni, a second ball off a corner clearance found the player. Njuguna struck the ball perfectly to extend GAS's lead to a convincing 3-0.

Man of the Match- Kelvin Njuguna

Playing an advanced role today, the GAS captain was a joy to watch. Njuguna showcased a complete offensive toolkit. He had a 100% dribble success rate (5/5). He was the key in advancing GAS play, evidenced by 9 progressive passes attempted.

The captain was the central figure in chance creation, directly leading to 4 significant opportunities, while also contributing directly to the scoreboard with a goal and an assist. Furthermore, his high passing volume of 82 passes at a solid 77% accuracy underscores his role in controlling possession and dictating tempo. His 9.5 rating was a testament to a good performance.
