In a major transfer during the recent window, Christine Adhiambo left four-time FKF Women's Premier League champions Vihiga Queens to join rivals Kibera Soccer Women.

This move is particularly notable as Kibera Soccer Women are the current holders of the 2025 FKF Women's Cup, a title they won by defeating Vihiga Queens 1-0 in the final.

Young but Already a Legend

Christine Adhiambo “Madueke” was one of the dependable players in the Vihiga Queens FC side in the second leg of the 2024-2025 season. Despite her age, she stood up to the task and delivered an impressive performance for the team. With a Tisini rating of 6.48, she is one of the outstanding players for Boniface Nyamunyamu’s side.

Given Christine Adhiambo's impressive performance in the 2024 KSSSA high school games, it was clear that she was destined to play at a higher level in the women's football league.

Vihiga Queens moved fast, securing her signature in the January 2025 transfer window.

Though still young, Christine Adhiambo has already made her mark in women's football. She earned legendary status as a member of the Nyakach Girls’ "Plateau Queens," helping them win the 2024 Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament in Kisumu.

She also led the team to the FEASSSA games in Mbale, Uganda.

It doesn’t end there; she was one of the players who made history with the under-17 Junior Starlets side that qualified for the World Cup in the Dominican Republic.  Adhiambo was a key member of Mildred Cheche’s side, as she started all three of the group stage matches before their elimination.

What makes Christine Adhiambo a standout player?

She plays as a right back in a 4-3-3 formation, a position she featured in all the matches for Vihiga Queens. However, she is also highly effective as a center-back in a 3-4-3 formation, a position where she truly excelled during her high school days.

Since joining Vihiga Queens, she has played 604 minutes, starting in six out of eight matches.  She had 2 appearances from the bench.

In Vihiga Queens' 4-3-3 possession-based system, Adhiambo thrived on the wings, where she operated high up the pitch. Known for her strong running power, she made overlapping runs to deliver crosses into the box.

Clever in her play, she timed these crosses, whether early or late, based on the runs of forwards Swaumu Musungu, Diana Cherono, and Susan Malda.

Last season, she attempted 24 crosses, completing 8 of them for a 33% crossing efficiency. Her single assist came from a cross delivered from the right side of the pitch.

Christine is a technical defender who helps her team in possession. This is clear from her passing stats: she has attempted 170 passes and completed 97 of them, giving her a 55% passing efficiency. Her influence extends to the final third, where she has made 14 progressive passes, completing four.

She also has a keen eye for goals, having scored twice last season. One goal was an outstanding long-range shot against Kibera Soccer Women, and the other was an impressive header from a free kick against Bungoma Queens.

Perhaps her goal against Kibera Soccer, a crucial equaliser, is what made them sign her.

Often positioned high up the pitch and with good ball striking, she took nine shots, all of which were on target.

Her Defensive Display

As a right back, her primary role is defending, and she has also mastered it. Her recovery runs are timely once her side loses possession. She gets into the line of four at the back and defends narrowly in the half space as the wingers defend wide areas.

In 1v1 defending, she's not beaten easily, as she always delays the marker and waits for the right moment to win the ball. Out of 5 tackles attempted, she won 3. She also fancies battling for the aerial balls, and this has been evident as she has won all 4 aerial duels that she contested.

From dead-ball situations, she has been a vital player, taking six corners, mostly as inswingers.

At her new club, she joins the FKF cup winners and a team that finished 3rd in the league. No doubt she is a marquee addition to a good side.
