In an intense rugby encounter, Blak Blad emerged victorious over Impala with a commanding 23-0 scoreline. The varsity side showcased a resilient defensive effort and clinical finishing to outclass their opponents, despite Impala dominating ball possession and territory for large portions of the match.
The game started with a bang as Archadius Khwesa announced his presence just two minutes in. Khwesa's blistering pace on the right wing left defenders in his wake, leading to an early try. Daniel Oyoo followed up with a successful conversion off the uprights, putting Blad ahead 7-0.
Impala struggled to make their mark, missing three penalty attempts in the first half. Meanwhile, Blad extended their lead in the 12th minute when Derrick Wechuli powered through to score in the right corner. However, Oyoo failed to add the extras, leaving the score at 12-0. A setback for Blad came in the 23rd minute when Wechuli was shown a yellow card for a foul, but Impala failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Impala side apply relentless pressure, yet Blad's defense stood tall. Blad’s discipline under pressure, however, faltered as they conceded numerous penalties—20 in total—but Impala couldn't convert these opportunities into points.
Daniel Oyoo showcased his kicking skills with a successful penalty in the 50th minute, further widening the gap. Blad’s substitute, Elvis Otete, then took center stage. In the 60th minute, Otete stunned spectators with a spectacular 60-meter linebreak to score a try, demonstrating why he’s a player to watch. Unfortunately, Oyoo's conversion attempt went astray.
Otete continued to trouble Impala’s defense, but his effort to score again was thwarted due to a forward pass in the build-up. The final minutes saw tempers flare, with Otete receiving a yellow card for taking an Impala player in the air, followed shortly by Ahona, who was also sent to the sin bin for an infringement.
Despite Impala's dominance in possession and territory, Blad capitalized on counterattacks and Impala's mistakes. The varsity side’s disciplined defense pinned Impala in their half during the final stages of the match, preventing any late resurgence. A handling error by Impala brought the game to an end, sealing a convincing victory for Blad.
